Facebook is not for friendships, it’s pure business 01 December 2009

Facebook dumbing friendship down. True or false?

Both.

It’s true because most of your contacts on facebook arn’t your real close friends you talk to everyday.

It’s false because you don’t use facebook to keep contact with old friends. Think of it, how often do you really talk to that classmate from first grade..? Facebook is used to create new relationships and contacs, for the simple purpose of benefiting.

Let me explain.

The author says that there is a need to introduce a real friend as a “close friend”, because of all the “friends” at social networks such as facebook. He makes a good point but i’d rather introduce that close friend as a “friend from …”

My opinion is that facebook has nothing to do with real friendsship. Some might think it does, but I don’t. For example:

Say you have a close friend that you talk to almost every day. Then, for some reason you stop talking, maybe because one of you moves or something. The only time you actually writes to that friend on facebook is when you 1. wanna prove to your new friends that you have other friends and 2. if you for some reasons can’t communicate through another medium.

As I mentioned earlier, Facebook is about making contacs that you  can draw a benefit from. Like the article from PR Australia (Digital PR strategies: Using social media to influence online brand visibility and reputation) said:

“It’s not just your website that is a source for search engines such as Google to examine and publish. It’s every piece of communication – formal and informal – which uses the web. This also includes the personal profiles of your staff, their facebook pages, their LinkedIn profiles etc”

So if a staffmember post something on her facebook wall, all her friends can see it, which gives the company PR.

So thanks to facebook dumbing friendsships, companies can actually take advantages of this. And not just companies, even just regular people maybe trying to start a business, or just having an garage sale. Everyone can benefit from having more contacts on facebook.

And those who are truly your friends don’t need facebook to communicate with you. So it’s easier to think of facebook as an great invention which allows you to be “friends” with people you barely know, but later in life can use for different purposes.

But doctors and patiens becoming friends on facebook just seems wrong..

Copyright – good or bad? 15 November 2009

Should music and movies be available for free on the internet, or should everyone who tries to upload or download it be punished?

As far as remixing goes, (like in the documentary) I don’t think it should be illegal, but I do not see the point of it. We have all the opportunities in the world
and with only our fantasy that stops us from creating new, music, film, well everything, so why waste time redoing someone else’s work? It’s like reinventing the wheel over and over again.

I found it a bit crazy that an artist got sued for using another artist music, when the sample only contained three seconds of the song. But when I think of it in another perspective, I woudn’t want someone else to steal a good piece of music that I had made.

Maybe be can come up with a system that pays the artist, while the users can listen to their music for free. Oh, wait..
it already exists. But how many people actually uses that? It can’t be that many, or the artists wouldn’t complain.

My opinion is that the artist should get paid for their work, if people like it. Like in any other business.
And that people should be able to listen to their work.
However, like in any other business the consumers should pay for the product.
( But which student actually wants to pay for things? ;) )

I also feel that stealing someone else’s work to make money of it or claim it to be your own work, is deeply wrong.
But to use the same work, as in listening to music, watching a movie etc should be okay, even if it comes from downloading.
And I now that what I’m saying makes no sense. So In other words, I don’t really know how I feel when it comes to right or wrong, since downloading has always been something that happens ( I don’t download, because I don’t know how to do it.. )

I would like to know more about copyright before I comment on such things, and I must say I had the chance at the copyright lecture.
But even though Staffan Teste clearly knew what he was talking about, there was no coincidence that only 20 persons still remained in the room after 3½ hours. So at say.

Swine flu hysteria 12 November 2009

Poor update here – my bad!

I actually watched “Good copy, bad copy” i WEEK ago..I just haven’t got the energy to write anything that requires thinking..

As some of you may have noticed, I’m not 100% healthy at the moment. Not even 50%…

I’ve been home for three days, and every single day I have called the hospital just trying to get an appointment to see what is wrong with me. But no.

And this is the “funny” part, do you know why they don’t wanna see me? Because I’m sick.

Excuse me, but is’nt that the doctors job!? To see and cure sick people. Maybe, just MAYBE they should have thought about that before they became doctors..

It’s like trying to get an appointment at the dentist but not succeed because “you have holes in your teeth”. Stupid Swedish system.

The only thing the woman at the hospital tells me everytime I call is: “Just stay at home, isolated, see if it gets worse and if you have problems breathing then call us again”.

Uhm.. excuse me.. but isn’t it just a bit too late when I can’t breathe!? How am I suppose to call the hospital without air? Idiots.

And the only thing she did was to laugh at me.

I know this isn’t the funniest post, but it’s important. Why? Because the doctors wont see me because they think I have the swine flu.

First of all, it IS their job to cure people. Second, people die like flies because doctors tell them to stay home and call when they are already dead.

I don’t have the swine flu. Because if I had it, I would have a 40 degrees fever now, just like yesterday. But I don’t.

However, I’m still too weak to move a longer distance.

Don’t believe everything that media tells you, just trust your own body. And screw the doctors.
